Popular Unity Day Russian Ambassador Viktor with Koronelli
The Popular Unity Day is celebrated Russian 4 of November, and commemorates the popular uprising by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky expelled from Moscow that the Polish invaders in 1612. He became an official holiday since 2005.
Mr. Ambassador Viktor Koronelli received Ambassadors of the fraternal countries, Russian foreign diplomats, Mexican friends and compatriots of Russia in Mexico at a reception on the occasion of one of the youngest national holidays. “This commemoration is very important, as we can feel inseparable part of our nation, despite being so far from our homeland”.
Following a brief welcome, He took the floor Mr.. Serguey Kilyakov, president of the Society of Russian in Mexico SORUMEX, who stressed the main objective of the association of compatriots: “keep our roots alive through education and popularization of our language, as well as our traditions, history, literature and music worldwide recognition for our descendants”.
Among the concerns and points to work in the Society of Russians in Mexico, Mr, Kilyakov mentioned the need to involve more actively young compatriots, to create their own civil organization and ensure the support of the Embassy, of Rossotrudnichestvo and SORUMEX. He also mentioned the creation of an effective system of support to compatriots during his residence in Mexico: “we must work to strengthen our community and to the consolidation and unity of compatriots on Mexican soil”.
Regarding propaganda detrimental to the image of Russia, He urged those present to share with the positive and actual Mexicans of wealth, culture, literature, traditions and nature of Russia. “Our compatriots in Latin America already have a very good example as, while participating in promotional activities to organize the World 2018, there was an enormous popularity and interest among the public on this continent. The amount of Mexican fans ranked first among other nations who visited the World Cup in Russia last summer”.
Following the speeches, those attending the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Mexico could enjoy traditional music by the group Arco & Lira and singer Ekaterina Belyaeva, plus snacks and traditional drinks.
