What they have in common ballerina Anna Pavlova, filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein, the poet Vladimir Mayakovsky or the composer Igor Stravinsky? Simple, maybe: His home nation and a very important role, that has transcended borders and decades, in the arts in much of his life they were played. But, also, all these icons of world culture took a step, more or less, for Mexico, country specially marked some chapters of his life and work.
The Russian community in Mexico usually meet during national holidays, as Victory Day, Women's Day or the Day of Popular Unity. A common element that characterizes these encounters is the artistic expression, from folk songs and dances, to painting and gastronomy. Alma Russian art born from MX record exploration and coexistence between the two nations, through its people and culture.
This project has focused on artists, but not only naming, but by profession and career, of those who came to Mexico to continue a work that had been forged and brash in Russia at the beginning, and now in Mexico have found a niche for its development; besides nurturing contact with a geographically distant land, a culture and a society seemingly dissimilar, but which they have arisen meeting points and understanding.
We invite you, through these images and texts, to dive into the Russian world enriched by the Mexican tradition, whose meeting points have greatly enriched the artistic heritage of both countries.
